"Bears?"
Bears represent a decidedly masculine side of gay culture.
If you're this kind of guy or like this kind of guy or simply like hanging around these kinds of
folks then you're allright by us!
We socialize. We have dinners, potlucks, hikes, pool-parties, camping trips, fishing trips, bar
socials, toy drives, and join other area Bears in their events as well. As a member-driven
organization, we do pretty much whatever events folks organize.
In addition to this website, we have an email list at Yahoogroups (see home page) to
communicate with each other. You are encouraged to post. We only request that the subject
is somehow broadly related to New Hampshire, Bears, and 'gay interest.' Posts are
moderated to prevent spammers from hacking our site, but are almost always approved in
less than 24 hours.
There is no Membership Fee. There is no 'expectation' that you must attend certain events.
There is no formal, hand-raising, boring organizational meetings. Call yourself a New
Hampshire Bear and you are one.
The New Hampshire Bears Charitable Foundation is a non-profit organization incorporated in
the State of New Hampshire, specifically for the purposes of providing health information to
gay men.

A Bear refers to a slice of gay culture,
and it changes over time and place.
Generally Bears are men who retain (or
cultivate) body and or facial hair (as
opposed the shaved-chest look), and are
often tall, heavy, husky, stocky, and/or
muscular. Bellies and Beef are Good.
More than that, Bears are relaxed, open,
friendly, no-attitude, welcoming sorts:
think "Friendly Good Ol' Boys."
